Rome Transport
FIUMICINO:
The Fiumicino Airport
has now become one of the most beautiful and welcoming airports in the world. There you can find bars and restaurants, luggage deposits, an executive center (with conference room rental, videoconference, multilingual secretaries,..), drugstores, nurseries, areas for disabled people, cash counters ,restrooms, money exchange, post offices, VIP lounge, and many shops with so many interesting and fashionable things.
CIAMPINO:
In 1916 Ciampino is Rome's airport; its role will last in time and in civil aviation history and its vocation will reveal through the years always forwarding the requests and development of the actual air traffic. Part of history is General Nobile's undertaking, that on board of the airship Norge, leaving from Ciampino on April 10th 1926, to carry out the famous flight across the polar circle. Also part of Ciampino's history is the first Alitalia international flight on July 6th 1947. Going back to today's reality, the Giovan Battista Pastine of Rome Ciampino has undergone a total restructuring making it a station with implants and services at a higher level than international standards and that respond at the furthest requests from airline and charter companies, tour operators, touristic and business aviation and cargo operators.
TERMINI STATION:
Is at the very heart of the city. It comprehends a vast network of railways that branch with all cities of Italy and Europe and its opening time from 4 am to 1 am eases the trains' timings compatibility. To facilitate transport over all the cities there are the 2 underground lines A and B that intersect in Termini and on its outer main square one can find a multitude of buses with precise courses.
TIBURTINA STATION:
The Tiburtina Station is Rome's second railway station and is ease to reach with buses and the underground line B. It permits the connection by train (a slower but cheaper one) and night buses to Fiumicino Airport. Across its main square one can find many buses that connect to the city, all Italy and also abroad.
TAXIS
TAXIS OFFICIAL TAXIS in Rome are yellow or white and must hear the “taxi" sign on the roof. Only use these taxis, not the ones offered by I touts at stations and tourist spots; official taxi drivers do not Taxi tout for customers. Official taxis can signpost he hailed either at specially marked stands or on the street (drivers are not meant to stop in the street but many of them do). You can nearly always find them at the main tourist sights, at airports and stations
(including Termini and Ostiense). Roman taxi drivers are not renowned for their friendliness and may even refuse to take you too far from the lucrative city centre. Taxis aren`t a particularly cheap way of getting about, so, unless you have heavy luggage or screaming toddlers, public transport is usually a better option. Taxi drivers always charge supplements for: baggage, night journeys (10pm—7am), journeys on Sundays or public holidays, and fares to or from the airport. As with
taxis elsewhere, the meter continues running while you're at a standstill so traffic jams can become expensive.Drivers may also take suspiciously cireuitous routes to your destination, While Native Romans generally tip taxi drivers small amounts or nothing at all, visitors are expected to give at least 10 per cent of the fare. You can book in advance from Cosmos Radio Taxi, Societa Cooperativa Autoradiotaxi Roma or Societa la Capitale Radio Taxi. There is a surcharge for taxis hooked in advance.
BUSES AND TRAMS
Rome's public bus and tram company is colled ATAC. The bus run from early morning until about midnight. There are also a few night buses.
